In summer 2020, Playboy launched the PRIDE IS GOOD campaign in partnership with The Trevor Project to raise awareness about the dangers of conversation therapy — the discredited practice of using pain and shame to change someone's sexual orientation or gender identity. The partnership featured:
- An eight-page editorial feature in Playboy magazine called Faces of Resilience, authored by Nico Lang
- A companion video series published on YouTube and Playboy.com
- An original, seven-piece Bunny ear product capsule, with proceeds benefitting The Trevor Project
- A Moschino x Playboy capsule collection called GAYBOY, with proceeds benefitting The Trevor Project
- A live panel at the Playboy Playhouse pop-up magazine in New York City during WorldPride 2019
- An event sponsorship of TrevorLIVE New York 2019
Enjoying sexual freedom means defending the rights of all genders and identities. As we celebrate the richness of different lived experiences, Playboy was energized by the opportunity to come out formally for what we believe. And so, inspired by a 1969 Letter to the Editor that warned against the dangers of conversion therapy, we wanted to remind the world where Playboy stands on equality: Gay is good.
Faces of Resilience was an editorial dedication to the warriors who have survived conversion therapy and those who are fighting, state by state, to ban the practice nationwide. With editorial guidance from the Trevor Project, an organization supporting at-risk LGBTQ youth, I was proud to spotlight these change-makers in the pages of Playboy.
