Playboy Magazine's 65th Anniversary Issue celebrated freedom of expression — and broke the internet. Released in Winter 2019, this issue marked my first at the helm of the iconic publication and the reinvention of the magazine as an ad-free quarterly. The issue featured cultural provocateurs Sam Harris, Roxane Gay, Taraji P. Henson, Chuck Palahniuk, Paul W. Downs and Stormy Daniels with a concept cover by visual artist Marius Sperlich — Playboy's first artist cover commission in almost 20 years. But it was Ezra Miller's emotional and freeing photo shoot and accompanying profile, authored by Ryan Gajewski, that made the world do a double-take. In a set from celebrated photographer Ryan Pfluger, Ezra Miller donned the Bunny ears and released his inhibitions. The story won Best Profile 2019 from the Los Angeles Press Club, and the issue itself garnered multiple industry honors for its reimagining of the Playboy gaze, including an Eddie Award for Best Men's Lifestyle Publication.
